Mental health

About a quarter of people in Leicester will have problems with mental wellbeing at some time in their lives.

Mental health problems are equally common in men and women, but the types of problems differ. Women are one-and-a-half times more likely to be affected by anxiety and depression, while men suffer more from substance abuse (one in eight men is dependent on alcohol) and anti-social personality disorders.

NHS Leicester City has made better mental health one of its four major priorities.

Mental health in Leicester

NHS Leicester City and Leicester City Council are preparing a joint strategy to determine the future direction of mental health in Leicester. We have been asking for your views via an anonymous online survey. This survey is now closed, but we will be publishing the findings here soon.
