What is the DHAL Programme?
The DHAL (Diet, Health and Activity in Leicester) programme is a 10 week weight management programme aimed at those who eat a South Asian diet.
The programme is being run in the east of Leicester where there is a large population of BME (black and minority ethnic) communities.
The programme consists of 90 minutes of nutrition advice and education with a dietician followed by an hour of physical activity such as Tai Chi, badminton, yoga or circuit training with a physical activity trainer.
What does it involve?
The nutrition sessions cover popular topics such as healthy eating, with information on unhealthy fats, sugar and salt. Group members will have the opportunity to take advantage of a supermarket tour, learning how to choose healthier options to fill up their trolley. Advice on portion sizes and emotional eating will also be covered.
