Cancer is a major cause of early death in Leicester. Many cancers are treatable if they are diagnosed early enough and we are encouraging local residents to learn what signs and symptoms to look out for and to go to their GP straight away if they have any of the symptoms.
If you live in Leicester, you will benefit from a campaign in your area this Autumn that will help you to learn what the main signs and symptoms are. Look out for our volunteers during October and have a chat with them about the signs and symptoms. And remember, if you do notice any of the signs and symptoms, go to your GP straight away.

If you do notice any of the signs and symptoms, it is important that you go to your doctor as soon as possible.
Your surgery should be able to offer you an appointment to see a GP quickly. You can normally see any doctor within your surgery. This is quite normal, especially if you need an appointment quickly. However, if it is more convenient, you should also be able to book appointments in advance. Most GP practices are open from 8am to 6:30pm.

Some people feel embarrassed about talking to their GP or worry that they are wasting the doctor's time. It doesn't matter how you explain your symptoms, the doctor will be understanding. Cancer is a serious matter and you will never be told you are wasting the GP's time.
