Get involved... in research

NHS Leicester City is involved in health based research to help improve the current and future health of Leicester people.
We have created a short guide aimed at members of the public, including patients, carers and their representatives who are interested in becoming involved in health research, or simply want to find out more about it. Please click here to see the guide.

If you would like us to send you printed copies of the guide, please contact diane.baldwin@leicestercity.nhs.uk

Local research networks and partnerships

NHS Leicester City and the research networks are working together to make sure that health research provides the evidence needed to improve healthcare for local communities. Some of the networks and partnerships have their own information for patients and the public. Click on the names of the networks below to see this information:

Primary Care Research Network-East Midlands & South Yorkshire (PCRN-EMSY)

The PCRN-EMSY is based within NHS Leicester City, and provides full geographical coverage across the regions. The network supports the delivery of high quality research and has a focus on primary care, such as that involving general practices and their patients.

Topic-specific clinical research networks (TCRNs)

Six of these networks cover some or all of Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. Click on the first five links below to find out more about involving patients and the public in stroke, diabetes, mental health and children's research.

The TCRNs also work in close partnership with comprehensive local research networks. The Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland Comprehensive Local Research Network (LNR CLRN) works with local NHS organisations to provide the support for participation in high quality research funded through the National Institute for Health Research. This means ensuring that patients and healthcare professionals from all parts of the region are able to participate in and benefit from clinical research.

NHS Leicester City and all other local NHS organisations are partners in a collaboration with the University of Leicester and the Healthcare Workforce Deanery to help health professionals to make use of research evidence quickly in their work. The Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care - Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland (CLAHRC-LNR) aims to produce and implement high-quality research that meets local health priorities.
